In the wilderness of the Ruahines, on Aorangi Awarua, Awarua o Hinemanu and Te Koau trust land, Mauri Oho volunteers lay out the first trapline to protect growing populations of whio and kiwi.

Once a year the prefects from New Plymouth Boys High School don their red band gumboots and head out to the Taranaki bush to get stuck in servicing traps and picking up some leadership skills along the way. Read Story
For the last 18 months, Rob Paulin and his crew have been boating to Matapara / Pickersgill Island to volunteer and give birds a helping hand by servicing and monitoring a trapping network to keep rats and stoats at bay. Thanks to their efforts, the 96 hectare island is now covered in regenerating forest and birds are starting to call it home. Read story
