Restoring Matapara

Boaties turned trappers have made it their mission to increase biodiversity on Matapara / Pickersgill Island.

For the last 18 months, Rob Paulin and his crew have been boating to Matapara / Pickersgill Island to volunteer and give birds a helping hand by servicing and monitoring a trapping network to keep rats and stoats at bay. Thanks to their efforts, the 96 hectare island is now covered in regenerating forest and birds are starting to call it home.

The Matapara / Pickersgill Island short documentary was filmed over a period of two (rainy) days on board the Southern Cross.
